No matter whether you are excited by, or apathetic about, one has to acknowledge that mobile health apps along with smart phones, iPads, remote monitoring devices, cloud-based computing and other technological advances are impacting the future of healthcare delivery for both patients and providers.

The Association for Healthcare Risk Management of New York, Inc. is excited to provide an overview of mobile health apps and their usage by providers.

  • Ms. Maliszewski will discuss what mobile health apps are available and their usage in health care settings, how and what to consider when incorporating them into different practice settings, data aggregation, information pulling and potential malpractice issues and concerns related to their usage.

  • Mr. Hickerson will present the Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act (FDASIA), the FDA regulations, and the ongoing privacy, security and safety concerns regarding health apps through their FDASIA Committee Workgroup. One of them would address Senator Schummer’s recent initiative regarding better regulation of health apps.

  • Mr. Guttell will discuss security, privacy and safety concerns of heath care providers and what areas need to be addressed in one’s policies and procedures when using health apps.
